Here, sheer cliffs plunge over the 700 metres to the Lowveld. From this escarpment-a mostly unbroken rampart of cliffs-opens a vista into the Lowveld expanse and escarpment forests, the Eden-like aesthetic appearance of which prompted the name. On the clear day it is possible to see over the Kruger National Park towards the Lebombo Mountains on the border with Mozambique.
History of Nelspruit
Recently renamed to Mbombela, Nelspruit is located in the north eastern region of South Africa, in the Mpumalanga Province. Situated on the Crocodile River, the city is close to the Mozambique border and is an important manufacturing and agricultural centre.
Major industries in Nelspruit include the canning of citrus fruit, timber mills, paper production and the manufacturing of furniture. A mild subtropical climate combined with fertile soils provides the perfect conditions for growing of tropical and citrus fruits, especially avocado, mango, macadamia nuts and bananas
Shangana Cultural Village
Midway between the Blyde River Canyon and the southern Kruger National Park, the residents of the traditional villages of Shangana invite guests to share in the way of life of the Shangaan people. The picturesque villages are set in the shade of ancient trees, in a reserve of forest and grassland, and are open every day.
The Three Rondavels
The Three Rondavels are a major icon of Mpumulanga. This geological wonder is on the popular Panorama Route tourist drive to follow when exploring the province. The Three Rondavels are three round mountain tops with rounded pointed tops, much like the traditional round or oval African homesteads called rondavels.
